First Waste-to-Hydrogen Plant in India | In order to scientifically dispose of the waste generated in the city (PMC Waste Management ), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon produce hydrogen gas, which is a new alternative to biological fuel, from the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste generated in the city. Meanwhile, this is the first project in India (First waste-to-Hydrogen plant in India). But despite positive reports from organizations like NEERI, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), IIM, NCL, PNB, the project did not go ahead. The PMC is also positive about this project. But the municipality is waiting for the grant from the government. The pune Municipal Corporation should take initiative and take steps to complete the project without waiting for subsidy. India’s first hydrogen gas production plant (Where is PMC Setting up India’s first waste-to-hydrogen plant in Pune?) is going to be set up in the municipal premises at Ramtekdi through Pune Municipal Corporation, Veriot Pune Waste to Energy Private Limited and The Green Billions Limited. This project is going to be implemented in Deboot method. 428 crores will come for this. Around 350 tonnes of waste per day will be processed through the project, and through this, 150 tonnes of RDF and 9 metric tonnes of hydrogen will be produced. Also Maharashtra Pollution Control Corporation (MPCB) has given permission to set up this project. Moreover, institutes like Niri, Mumbai’s IIM, NCL, PNB have given positive reports in this regard. But this project does not seem to be going ahead. Because the Municipal Corporation expects that it will get funds from the Central Government. Central and state governments have formulated green hydrogen policies. Accordingly, the Municipal Corporation has corresponded with both the governments regarding getting funds. But no response has been received yet.
