Pune Okayama Maitri Garden | पुणे ओकायामा मैत्री उद्यानाची द्वीदशकपूर्ती साजरी | उद्यान निर्मितीस दोन दशक पूर्ण झाल्याबाबत ओकायामा शिष्टमंडळ जपानने दिली भेट
पुणे महानगरपालिका (PMC) आणि जपानच्या ओकायामा प्रिफेक्चर यांच्यात २००६ साली झालेल्या मैत्री व सहकार्य कराराच्या २० व्या वर्धापनदिनानिमित्त, ओकायामा चेंबर ऑफ कॉमर्सच्या प्रतिनिधींसह ओकायामा प्रिफेक्चरच्या १५ सदस्यीय शिष्टमंडळाने ७ जानेवारी रोजी पुणे महानगरपालिकेला भेट दिली.
२००६ पासून सुरू झालेल्या या औपचारिक सहकार्य करारानंतर, पुणे व ओकायामा यांच्यातील संबंध विविध क्षेत्रांत सातत्याने विस्तारले आहेत. या दीर्घकालीन आणि दृढ संबंधांचे दोन दशके पूर्ण झाल्याच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर ही भेट आयोजित करण्यात आली असून, भविष्यातील सहकार्यासाठी नवीन संधींचा शोध घेणे हा त्यामागील प्रमुख उद्देश होता.
या बैठकीदरम्यान दोन्ही बाजूंमध्ये द्विपक्षीय संबंध अधिक दृढ करण्याबाबत सविस्तर चर्चा झाली. विशेषतः शिक्षण, क्षमता वृद्धी (capacity building) तसेच प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रमांमध्ये सहकार्य वाढवण्यावर भर देण्यात आला. शहरी प्रशासन, आरोग्य, सार्वजनिक सेवा, तंत्रज्ञान आणि मनुष्यबळ विकास या क्षेत्रांमध्ये संस्थात्मक सहकार्य व ज्ञानविनिमयातून पुणे व ओकायामा या दोन्ही शहरांना परस्पर लाभ होईल, असे यावेळी अधोरेखित करण्यात आले.
ओकायामा शिष्टमंडळाचे नेतृत्व ओकायामा विधानसभेचे अध्यक्ष श्री. केनिची शिंपो आणि विधानसभेचे माजी अध्यक्ष श्री.हिरोयुकी ओगुरा यांनी केले, तर पुणे महानगरपालिकेच्या वतीने श्री. नवल किशोर राम, महापालिका आयुक्त, श्रीमती पवनीत कौर आणि श्री.ओमप्रकाश दिवटे, अतिरिक्त महापालिका आयुक्त आदी उपस्थित होते. भविष्यातील सहकार्याचा मार्ग निश्चित करताना येत्या काळात प्रत्यक्ष अंमलबजावणीयोग्य पावले उचलण्यावर दोन्ही बाजूंमध्ये एकमत झाले. भारत–जपान संबंधांची भक्कम व वाढती भागीदारीही या चर्चेत अधोरेखित झाली. विविध क्षेत्रांतील मोठ्या प्रमाणावरील सहकार्य करार हे दोन्ही देशांतील सामायिक मूल्ये व दीर्घकालीन धोरणात्मक भागीदारीचे प्रतीक असल्याचे नमूद करण्यात आले.
यापूर्वी सकाळी शिष्टमंडळाने पुणे–ओकायामा मैत्री उद्यानास भेट दिली. पुणे व ओकायामा या भागीदार शहरांमधील भारत–जपान मैत्रीचे हे एक महत्त्वपूर्ण प्रतीक असून, या भेटीदरम्यान श्रीमती पवनीत कौर, अतिरिक्त आयुक्त, पुणे मनपा यांनी शिष्टमंडळाचे स्वागत करून मार्गदर्शन केले. ओकायामा शिष्टमंडळ, असोसिएशन ऑफ फ्रेंड्स ऑफ जपानचे प्रतिनिधी व पुणे महानगरपालिकेचे अधिकारी, कर्मचारी यांच्या उपस्थितीत उद्यानामध्ये केक कापून उद्यानाची द्वीदशकपूर्ती साजरी करण्यात आली. पुणे–ओकायामा मैत्री उद्यानामुळे पुणे शहराच्या सौंदर्यात लक्षणीय भर पडली असून, हे उद्यान आशियातील जपानबाहेरील सर्वात मोठे जपानी शैलीतील उद्यान म्हणून ओळखले जाते.
या उद्यानाला थोर मराठी साहित्यिक पुरुषोत्तम लक्ष्मण देशपांडे (पु. ल. देशपांडे) यांचे नाव देण्यात आले असून, त्यामुळे त्याचे सांस्कृतिक महत्त्व आणखी वाढले आहे.
या संपूर्ण भेटीचे समन्वयक कार्य ‘असोसिएशन ऑफ फ्रेंड्स ऑफ जपान (AFJ) चे अध्यक्ष श्री. समीर खळे यांनी केले.
या भेटीमुळे पुणे महानगरपालिका व ओकायामा प्रिफेक्चर यांनी परस्पर सामर्थ्यांचा उपयोग करून भविष्यातही निकट सहकार्य सुरू ठेवण्याचा निर्धार पुनः एकदा अधोरेखित झाला असून, पुणे–ओकायामा मैत्री अधिक उंचीवर नेण्याचा संकल्प दोन्ही बाजूंनी व्यक्त करण्यात आला.

A 15-member delegation from Okayama Prefecture, Japan, including representatives from the Okayama Chamber of Commerce, visited the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on 7 January 2026 as part of the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between PMC and Okayama.
PMC and Okayama Prefecture first established their formal cooperation agreement in 2006, and since then the partnership has steadily expanded across multiple sectors. The visit was organised to commemorate two decades of this enduring relationship and to explore new avenues for future collaboration.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on strengthening bilateral relations, with a special focus on enhancing learning opportunities, capacity building, and training programmes between the two cities. It was emphasised that deeper institutional cooperation and knowledge exchange would result in mutual benefits for Pune and Okayama, particularly in the areas of urban governance, health, public services, technology, and human resource development.
The Okayama delegation was headed by Mr. Kenichi Shimpo, Chairman, Okayama Legislative Assembly, Mr. Hiroyuki Ogura, Former Chairman, while Mr. Naval Kishore Ram, Municipal Commissioner, Mrs.Pavneet Kaur , Mr.Omprakash Divte Addl. Municipal Commissioner represented Pune Municipal Corporation. Both sides discussed the way forward, identifying practical steps to further expand cooperation in the coming years. The discussions also highlighted the strong and growing ties between India and Japan, which have witnessed one of the highest numbers of cooperation agreements across sectors, reflecting shared values and a long-term strategic partnership.
Earlier in the morning, the delegation visited the Pune–Okayama Friendship Garden, a prominent symbol of Indo–Japanese friendship between the partner cities of Pune and Okayama. The delegation was welcomed and guided during the visit by Mrs. Pavneet Kaur, Additional Municipal Commissioner, PMC.
The Pune–Okayama Friendship Garden has significantly enhanced the beauty of Pune city and is recognised as the largest Japanese-style garden outside Japan in Asia.
The garden serves as a perfect link between the two cities, promoting cultural, traditional, economic, industrial, and friendly relations. The garden is named after the eminent Marathi literature Purushottam Laxman Deshpande, popularly known as Pu. La. Deshpande, further enriching its cultural significance.
The entire coordination of the visit was facilitated by Mr. Sameer Khale, President, Association of Friends of Japan (AFJ).
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the Pune Municipal Corporation and Okayama Prefecture to continue working closely, leveraging each other’s strengths, and taking the Pune–Okayama friendship to greater heights in the years ahead.
