Maharashtra Bags Top Honours under Centre’s Clean Campaign Survey

| Maha CM congratulates citizens of the state, appeals for continued consistency for maintaining cleanliness

Maharashtra has bagged top honours and won the Central Government’s Swachh Survekshan-2023 awards. The top award of ‘Best Performance State’ was conferred upon Maharashtra by President Draupadi Murmu. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has congratulated the people of the state, Municipal Corporations, all Municipal Councils ang Gram Panchayats over the success. Shri. Shinde said, “We have achieved this top position due to the contribution of cleanliness loving citizens in Maharashtra and due to the persevering hard work by cleaning and sanitation workers. The work hands labouring for cleanliness are the real heroes behind this success. Congratulations to the sanitation workers and all officers, employees who contributed their mite towards achieving this success.”

Similarly, the list of the cleanest cities announced included Navi Mumbai that bagged the third position with a 7-star rating. Among cities with less than a lakh demography of population, the Saswad Nagar Parishad was ranked first while Lonavala city secured the third ranking. The Pune Municipal Corporation secured a five-star rating, with Pimpri Chinchwad additionally bestowed with a water plus ranking as well as a 5 star rating. Apart from this, among cities housing less than a lakh of citizens Saswad, Lonavla, Karad, Panchgani and Vita have also won awards as clean cities. Gadhinglaj, Vita, Deolali and Sillod cities have also made it to the rankings. Cumulatively 8 cities across Maharashtra have made the state proud by securing a ranking position in the list of top ten cleanest cities in the country.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri. Eknath Shinde’s concept of the ‘Maha Swachhata’ campaign was undertaken in earnest across the state with an emphasized focus on roads and lanes in Mumbai that have been taken up for a deep clean drive that was launched by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Along with sanitation workers, people have also begun participating in this cleanliness movement in a big way with the campaign assuming the form of a people’s movement.
The cleanliness campaign, launched from Mumbai city and is being implemented across the state, expects to be taken up with much vigour, enthusiasm and wider participation of citizens, local self-government bodies and all officers and employees in the wake of Maharashtra having been awarded the first place in the Swachh Survekshan Awards. The Chief Minister Shri. Shinde has congratulated all the awarded and ranked cities for their achievement.
