Ganeshkhind road widening paved the way!|  The High Court has lifted the stay on removal of 72 trees

Pune : Ganeshkhind Road-Pune Metro | The High Court (Mumbai High Court) allowed the removal of 72 trees on the condition of replanting them, which are obstructing the widening of Ganeshkhind road for the metro and double-decker flyover. This has paved the way for widening of Ganeshkhind road. (Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)

Work on Metro No. 3 Line is in progress on Ganeshkhind Road. Also, a double-decker flyover is being constructed in Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth Chowk on this road. As the width of the road on both sides of the bridge is less due to this work of the flyover, according to the development plan, the Municipal Corporation has made the Ganeshkhind road 45 m. Widening work has been undertaken. The widening work has been started by taking control of the revenue affected by the widening of the road. But the work was stalled for more than six months due to environmentalists’ opposition to cutting the trees there. Therefore, while the work is going on, the traffic has to be continued on the existing road, causing huge traffic jams. (Ganeshkhind Road-Pune Metro)

Meanwhile, environmentalists opposed the widening of the road while the work of removing trees obstructing it was underway. Municipal Corporation implemented a technical process while removing these trees. Ranjit Gadgil, on behalf of the local body, approached the High Court against the Municipal Corporation, alleging that it started removing the trees after completing the one-sided hearing process without listening to the citizens who objected to it. While suspending the removal of trees, the High Court had ordered an expert committee to be appointed and submit a report.

Accordingly, the Municipal Corporation appointed a committee of experts and accepted the report prepared by the committee.
Based on the committee’s report, the High Court today lifted the stay on the condition of replanting the 72 trees to be removed from this road.
This information was given by Nisha Chavan, Legal Officer of the Municipal Corporation.
At today’s court hearing Adv. Adv Nisha Chavan along with Head of Road Department Anirudh Pavaskar and
Petitioner Ranjit Gadgil was also present.
