Such an appeal has been made on behalf of the Garden Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC Garden Department). It is an offense to burn, cut down trees or do any act of harming trees in any way without a permit. A fine of up to 1 lakh can be imposed for this. The Maharashtra (Urban Area) Tree Preservation Act, 1975 to Pune Municipal Corporation Jurisdiction has been implemented. The Tree Authority functions as per the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Protection and Conservation Rules, 2009 and the order of May High Court, Bombay dated 20th September, 2013. As per the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees (Amendment) Act, 2021
It is an offense to burn, cut down trees or do any act of harming trees in any way without a permit. Such an offense shall be punishable with fine of an amount equal to the value drawn but not exceeding one lakh rupees, using such method as may be notified by the Government.’
However, the municipal park department issued a public appeal to all the citizens of the city not to cut down any trees on the occasion of Holi.
